Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute (Earlier known as Government Central Textile Institute), Kanpur is a premier textile institute of North India. It made a modest start in 1914. However in 1937, Govt. Central Textile Institute came into existence in its present form by merger of two premier textile institute i.e. one at Kanpur and the other at Roorkee i.e. Department of Textile Technology, Thomson Civil Engineering College of Roorkee and two diploma programme were started in Textile Manufacture Chemical Technology.
In the year 1959-60 four year degree Programmes in Textile Technology & Textile Chemistry were started. Initially the Institute was affiliated to Agra University but on establishment of the University in Kanpur in the year 1966 it got affiliated to Kanpur University. In the year 1976-77 the institute pioneered in starting a four year degree programme in Manmade Fibre technology. In 1985 the three year diploma Programmes were shifted to Government Polytechnic Kanpur and thereafter the institute has been running graduate and postgraduate Programmers with Ph.D. research facilities.
The fourth degree programme in Textile Engineering was added under World Bank aided Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme of Government of India and Government of State of Uttar Pradesh in 2005. The institute is organized into four Textile departments along with individual departments of Basic Sciences and Engineering. All Textile departments offer B.Tech. Degree and Textile Technology and Textile Chemistry departments offer M.Tech degree. Facilities for doctorate level research also exist in all departments.
Eligibility Criteria:Candidates who have passed 10+2 level examination or equivalent with physics, mathematics as compulsory subjects and one optional from the following subjects chemistry/ Bio-Tech/ computer science/ Biology securing minimum 50%marks in aggregate, are eligible for admission to B. Tech. programme . The Candidate is essentially required to pass in each subject of the qualifying subject group.
3 Years Course [Lateral Entry] Candidates who have passed three years Engineering Diploma or B.Sc. Mathematics with minimum of 60% marks from any recognized university.

Eligibility Criteria:Candidates must have a valid GATE score.Candidates must have passed B.E/B.Tech in their respective disciplines with a minimum of 60% in aggregate (54% of SC/ST/PwD candidates).Non GATE candidates will be given admissions on the basis of their Qualifying Exam Marks for the vacant seats left after allotment to GATE candidates

The facility is available to all students, staff and faculty members for their computing needs. It has been shifted to the new building in a newly prepared laboratory. The following resources are available Computers P-IV ( approx. 50 Numbers) Colour printing Deskjet Scanning Laser Printing Internet and e-mail facility Software as per requirement of UG Students Internet and Intranet Facility The Campus Wide networking has been implemented in the Institute under TEQIP. The networking has been commissioned and started well on December 1, 2007. It has been noticed that the utilization of network resources is not being done by the beneficiaries optimally probably due to lack of wide publicity, amongst stakeholders, for that necessary steps are being taken.
Residential life also foster leadership promotes understanding of diverse backgrounds and life styles encourage cooperative decision making and supports activities that allow students to uncover and broaden their interests. The environment provided is conducive for the inmates to grow intellectually socially and physically. We have three Boys Hostels having residential capacity of approx: 200 students, in addition to a girls hostel having capacity of 50 students. The girl's hostel is temporary and we are striving for the fully facilitated Girl's hostel having capacity of 100.Each hostel has its own dining hall, kitchen, reading rooms and other recreational facilities.
It is fast growing collection includes an up-to-date and well balanced collection of over 18000 selected document including 7000 bound periodicals in the field of Textile science. Besides currently subscribing to over 46 journals, The Library also stocks a collection of reports and dessertation in the field of Textile.
